TWIN CITIES DOULAS

Babies are like the sun, they bring light & joy into our lives

Scroll through to learn about our doulas that serve clients in the Twin Cities/Metro area.

Complete our request form.

If you have a request for a specific doula or suggestions of ones you feel may be a good fit, we are happy to check with their availability for your birthing time. However, as a small nonprofit, we do not have the capacity for clients to interview several doulas, then select one from that process. Your placement will be determined by your response to the Doula Confirmation Form,  your attendance at classes, and doula availability around your estimated due date (EDD).

While we will do everything possible to place you with a doula, making a request is not a guarantee that we will have a doula available at your birthing time!

Ariel

I am honored to provide holistic support throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys. I am so excited to be a part of this community!

Hello! My name is Ariel. I am a full spectrum doula with special interests in supporting BIPOC, single parents, those considered high risk and grieving families.

I initially developed an interest in birth work after attending my first birth when I was just 11 years old. I like to joke about the fact that my favorite show growing up was TLC’s “A Baby Story”!

Over the years my own experiences with pregnancy really ignited my desire to pursue birth work professionally. After multiple miscarriages and losing my son shortly after birth, I started a “A Rainbow From Onyx” to spread awareness about baby loss, challenge stigma and share resources. Connecting with the online baby loss community led me to become a Bereavement Doula.

Outside of doula-ing, I have a background in Early Childhood Education and Community Organizing. I am Mexican-Lakota and I currently live in Saint Paul/Occupied Dakota Territory with my husband and daughter.

I am honored to provide holistic support throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys. I am so excited to be a part of this community!

Ashley

EVERYONE deserves to be educated, supported, and encouraged during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

What if I told you that there was someone who would support your birth choices, provide you evidence-based information, and teach you how to advocate for yourself and your baby all while comforting you physically, emotionally, mentally, and educationally? Hi, I'm Ashley and I'm that someone.

Birth rights are human rights and incredible things happen when a birthing person is treated with the care and compassion they deserve.

EVERYONE deserves to be educated, supported, and encouraged during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

It's more evident than ever that the world is full of barriers. One way I can do my part is to level the playing field and make birth education and support accessible, regardless of social stature, race, sexual preference/identity, or religion.

I am a Certified Birth Doula and a Postpartum Doula and a Lamaze-Certified Childbirth Educator. Additionally, I have the distinct privilege in working as the Doula Coordinator at Everyday Miracles!

Outside of birth work, I am a professional classical singer. I have had the unique opportunity to share my music all around the world, including Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Additionally, I sing all around the Twin Cities with several professional choral groups, as well as at The Basilica, St. Olaf, and Holy Cross. I am born and bred in Minneapolis. I live with my husband and our two beautiful babies. We are a goofy, multicultural, and close-knit family that get strange stares when people can't figure out why we don't all look alike. Sometimes, challenging the system is as easy as walking out the door!

We love to travel, dance, spend time at the lake, and try new food. Most importantly, we love to laugh!

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and remember, you are capable of great things!

Ashwaq

Childbirth is an extremely beautiful thing and its a privilege to be given the chance to be apart of that journey.

Childbirth is an extremely beautiful thing and its a privilege to be given the chance to be apart of that journey. I’ve always been passionate about childbirth, mothers and children. I look forward to being apart of a journey in helping to reduce disparities in maternal child health. I also look forward to being apart of the doula community.

Brianna

My ultimate goal is to support your choice, answer questions and provide resources throughout your pregnancy/birth journey!

My name is Brianna, I am a COPE trained birth Doula located in Minneapolis MN. I am a boymom to three wonderful boys. Being a Mother is my weakness. Next, is my love for educating and supporting women through their journey of birth before, during and after.

Having the passion to help other women, as they create and experience their own birth story.

My ultimate goal is to support your choice, answer questions and provide resources throughout your pregnancy/birth journey!

Dawn

my plan is to help you be mentally and physically prepared for whatever decisions come our way and I'll support YOU in making evidenced based decisions for your birth in real time

Hello! My name is Dawn and I'm a certified Birth Doula through DONA International, certified Hypnobabies Doula and a certified Placenta Encapsulator supporting Central Minnesota. After years in banking and a short time in Orthopedic surgery, I feel I've finally found my true calling. Supporting families during the birth process will never get old; I learn something new every time and am humbled to be welcomed into such a personal/wonderful experience.

Although I'd love to give each mama their desired birth, my plan is to help you be mentally and physically prepared for whatever decisions come our way and I'll support YOU in making evidenced based decisions for your birth in real time. I'll also encourage the birth partner to be as involved as they'd like to be, helping with positioning, encouraging and support. I believe the whole family dynamic is strengthened during birth when all feel included and appreciated.

During my down time, I enjoy researching anything birth related, spending time with my family and dogs and thrift shopping for vintage gas station advertising. I'd be honored to help you and your birth partner experience birth as it was meant to be.

Emily L.

As a doula, it is truly rewarding to encourage a woman through this emotional, physical and spiritual process.

Hello! My name is Emily. My desire to be a doula began after serving a close friend in two of her births. I realized how important this position was to the mother and her family. As a doula, it is truly rewarding to encourage a woman through this emotional, physical and spiritual process. Watching a woman turn inward to focus on delivering their child and seeing them gain confidence in themselves, is beautiful.

As a DONA-certified birth doula, my role is to encourage and calm you when you might feel overwhelmed by labor. I am there to remind you that you can birth this little one, your body was made to do it! I get to stay by your side through the entire birth to assist you in whatever way you need.

When I’m not doulaing, I’m homeschooling our four great kids, cooking tasty food, taking trips with my hubby, biking around town, running to soccer games, or hanging out with sweet friends. I look forward to getting to know you and encouraging you on your amazing birth journey!

Emily K.

Every birth is as unique as the people who are involved, and I am honored and humbled every day to be a part of this amazing work.

Hello! My name is Emily (she/her), and I’m a DONA-certified birth doula, birth photographer, and childbirth educator serving out of Robbinsdale, MN. I’ve always had a passion for education and justice. The birth of my daughter opened my eyes to the power and incredible transformation of birth on people and families, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to serving those families.

My goal as a doula is that my clients feel supported and confident during their entire pregnancy and childbirth, so they will start their journey into parenthood (or parents of additional children) in the best possible way. Every birth is as unique as the people who are involved, and I am honored and humbled every day to be a part of this amazing work.

When I’m not doula-ing, I’m typically at home with my 5 year old Aurora and 2 year old Thorin. I have a BS degree in Biology with minors in Sustainability Studies and Fisheries and Wildlife. My current obsessions include cooking vegetarian meals, watching anime, photography, and harassing our cats Scully and Mulder.

Hodan

Witnessing the beauty of a new life entering the world sparked a deep passion within me for providing unwavering support and advocacy for women in labor.

Hello, I am Hodan. I reside in the vibrant city of Minneapolis, where I have cultivated a deep passion for supporting women during one of the most transformative moments of their lives - childbirth. Fluent in both Somali and English, my journey into the world of childbirth support began with a proud personal experience, where I stood by the side of two dear friends of mine during their childbirth. Witnessing the beauty of a new life entering the world sparked a deep passion within me for providing unwavering support and advocacy for women in labor.

Education and advocacy are the core of my beliefs, and being a doula allows me to combine these seamlessly. I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of their strength, requires a strong system during childbirth. I am dedicated to ensure my clients feel empowered and nurtured every step of the way. Even the strongest of women need a support system and I am honored to be part of that system. Together, we can make the journey into motherhood a deeply meaningful and positive experience.

Jerriah

I believe that Birth is sacred, and should be handled with intention

Jerriah Marie (She/Her)…
is a holistic doula, herbalist, and prenatal yoga teacher located in the twin cities. When she is not serving families in the birth space you can find her writing poetry, whipping up herbal remedies in her kitchen, and sharing cuddles with her daughter Leilani. Her passion for birth work began at age 5. After witnessing her aunt's stillbirth, she knew that changing the disparities around birth was her mission. As a young adult Jerriah was always deeply moved by birth and found her way supporting family members and friends during their labor. It wasn't until 2020, after the birth of her daughter, that this spark reignited back into her life and she dove deep into the meaningful work that she now does as a birth worker.

"I believe that Birth is sacred, and should be handled with intention. As a doula my approach is designed around assisting you in bringing your birth intentions to life, whatever that may look like for you and your family. Birth is such a special moment that many remember for the rest of their lives. My hope as your doula is to ensure you embark on the journey of parenthood feeling educated, supported, and empowered."

Jillian

I am a birthworker and changemaker who is certified in (in)fertility, birth, and postpartum doula support.

Hi! I'm Jillian. I am a birthworker and changemaker who is certified in (in)fertility, birth, and postpartum doula support. I’ve been a doula since 2018 and supported over 50 families in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My greatest desire is to educate and empower families with self-advocacy tools that they’ll use for the rest of their lives.

I am intrinsically motivated to work toward Reproductive Justice. That is “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities” (SisterSong).

When I’m not working 1:1 with clients, I’m managing campaigns for women and nonbinary folks in Minneapolis and Saint Paul because we need to work at both the individual and structural levels to make lasting change. In birthwork, my strengths are empathy, compassion, non-judgment, and championing you to believe in yourself and your strong, unique, beautiful body. As a mother myself, I know how transformational this time can be for the entire family, and I’m honored to play a small role in my clients’ birth stories.

I love learning and have advanced training in supporting victim/survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, trauma-informed support, and body-oriented coaching. I have personal experience with pregnancy loss, infertility, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and fatphobia in the healthcare system. All bodies are good bodies, and I consider it a special honor to serve families facing these challenges.

When I’m not supporting a birth or knocking on doors, you can find me snuggled up with my 3-year old daughter, Lottie, watching Encanto for the 10th time this week, trying to wrangle my spirited German Shepherd/Husky puppy or my feisty feline Phoebe, or cooking nutritious and delicious meals with my spouse, Jack. We all live together in our slightly chaotic, yet very loving home in Southwest Minneapolis.

Kay

Whether it is your first child or second, third, etc I want to help make your birthing journey less stressful and more enjoyable and memorable

Hello! My name is Kay Yang. I am Hmong, Christian, and excited to be with you on your journey! A little about me, my husband and I reside in the Twin Cities. We have two kiddos who are a huge blessing. Whether it is your first child or second, third, etc I want to help make your birthing journey less stressful and more enjoyable and memorable. I want to be able to help you answer questions you don't even know you have yet and be your advocate for however you want your birthing process to be.

Kayla

When we are educated, we are empowered.

I believe every woman deserves a safe, comfortable birth and healthy baby. My approach to providing support stands behind my faith in God and my belief in every woman’s capability and strength. No matter the desired way to birth, I believe every pregnancy journey starts with self-education.

When we are educated, we are empowered. That is why, if chosen to work with you, I do my absolute best to give you the tools needed so you feel at ease during your journey through pregnancy, and into postpartum.I strive to provide personalized care, emotional support and be a source of knowledge for any questions you may have. A doula is designed to be there for you through every step of your pregnancy process, not just through birthing.
It is a unique experience to be able to bond with a mother in a way not all healthcare professionals are able to do. This is something I am familiar with since I have a deeply rooted background in healthcare. My long-term active committed goal is to become a midwife. Being a doula is the first step to bridging that gap and allowing me the experience and learning needed to get there. It is in my blood to be the caring individual that I am. To understand and relate to those I serve. As well as be the voice advocate to those who may need it.

I am passionate about encouraging clients to find their inner strength by digging into their desires, fears and anticipations that surround birth. Once acquired I help construct a loose template on how birth may look like for them. Redirection of negativity through the implementation of education. Reclaiming your power is essential in order to promote health and wellness.I am a mother. I have three children, so I incorporate a lot of my lived experiences on pregnancy and birth into how I provide support. Every time I think about helping a mother through a pregnancy the excitement grows within me because I know how much of a privilege it is to be able to do so.Some of my favorite things (aside from my kids of course) are photography, writing, reading, hiking, foraging, deepening my faith in God and learning constantly, especially these topics: holistic living, pregnancy, and childbirth education.

Lori

I love educating, encouraging, and empowering women and creating an atmosphere where they can have the best birth experience possible

My name is Lori and I am a Certified Doula through DONA International. I am also a Registered Sonographer, encouraging women to have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. My calling to help pregnant women began at a young age when I convinced my parents to let a friend who became pregnant to live with us. When I became a single mom myself, I began housing pregnant women. Before I knew doula work existed, I was a birth partner for a single mom and also had a special support person with me for my own labor and delivery.

When I was asked to take the doula training for one of my jobs, I looked into it and immediately knew this is what I am supposed to be doing. My personal experience of childbirth, with great support present, really changed me. I became a more confident person in every aspect of my life. I love educating, encouraging, and empowering women and creating an atmosphere where they can have the best birth experience possible.

I am married and have one adult son and a little dog named Bandit. I love spending time with my family. I enjoy my perennial garden in the summer and planting flowers in the spring. I also enjoy bird watching in my yard. I enjoy the seasons in MN but plan to retire to Florida when the time comes.

Marcia

As a doula, I support my clients and encourage them where they’re at, coming alongside them so they may have the most positive birthing experience possible

Since young adulthood, I have been fascinated by pregnancy & birth, and the way that women throughout history have supported one another. I have birthed three children and each experience of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and breastfeeding were completely different from one another with their own challenges and victories. Having supportive and caring individuals come alongside me made all the difference! Now that my children are more independent, I made the decision to become a doula and I am certified through DONA International.

I am an amazed-believer in the power of women’s bodies and their ability to birth life. At the same time, I understand that every person approaches birth with their own needs, abilities, stories, and hopes. As a doula, I support my clients and encourage them where they’re at, coming alongside them so they may have the most positive birthing experience possible. I enter into personal relationships with each client knowing that each individual has their own story and experiences, and I aim to get to know them without judgment. This shapes the care I am able to give so that the birthing individual may be and feel empowered!

In addition to being a doula, I am also a wife to a smart and thoughtful man and I am a mother to 3 unique and bright children. We all parent a puppy we never thought we'd have, but that's what happens during a pandemic. I am a seamstress and production manager at a local sustainable modern clothing company. I also love to garden vegetables, go hiking or biking with my family, touch trees and smell pine, get caught up in a good book, and zone out to a show.

Hello/Boozhoo! My name is pronounced O-Ya- Tae! Which is Lakota, meaning the unity of the people or the people. You are getting ready for one of the biggest days of your life, and I am here to support you!

Whether it be your first or fifth child; every woman deserves to be confident, nurtured, informed, and supported through their journey. That is my main priority with every one of my clients. Regardless of any background, race, sexuality, status culture or belief; I am here to support you in ways that can be hard to come by, sometimes. I say that with confidence because I approach my clients with individualized care determined by their needs. Teaching from not only evidence-based research, but also life experiences from myself and other mothers.

Just a little bit about me and my background: I have three children of my own! I planned on having all natural births with all, BUT our creator had different plans. My first son was a cesarean section, and he is now 16 years old. My second son had a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) with an epidural, and he is now going on 12 years old. Finally, my daughter was another VBAC, and I actually got to go through with my natural birth. She just turned 7 years old. They are of course the reason behind almost every major decision that has changed my life’s trajectory in the best possible ways.
Along with my kids being my biggest accomplishments in my eyes; I have also had the pleasure to reach a handful of other opportunities that I am proud of.

I became a doula at the age of 19 through DONA in Duluth, Minnesota. Quickly found out that I needed more life experience to really get clients. Despite having already had a child of my own I decided to pursue nursing in the hopes it would lead me to midwifery. I achieved two degrees and worked as a doula sparingly for almost 10 years. Within the last 2 years I decided it was time to take on being a doula full time and I haven’t looked back since. Will I still pursue midwifery? Yes, I plan on becoming a direct entry midwife. Until then I will be in love with this career and love to take on training often, to ensure I am up to date and to be able to do more for my mother.
I am so excited to work with you!

Thank you/ Miigwech!

Patricia

As your Doula, I promise to educate, listen, and make note of any concerns or desires you may have.

"Hiiii! I am so grateful you're taking the time to read my profile! My name is Patricia, and I am a COPE certified Perinatal Educator (or Doula) and Lactation Consultant.

As an autistic, God-loving, queer artist, business owner, community organizer, & last but not least: mother of 4 amazing children (2 biological & 2 bonus babies), my clients come from all walks of life, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

My love for childbirth began when I was a "boy crazy" 10 year old. My mother brought me to see my older sister give birth hoping that would cure me. She wasn't prepared for me to say "That was so beautiful. I want to do this for the rest of my life!" In my life, I've had the pleasure of shadowing many OBGYNs, and briefly went to college to become one. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish out my school year. It was a passion I had to put on the back burner. Fast forward to 2021, and I was connected with my own Doula for my son's birth. I soon realized being a Doula was more my speed anyway.

I finally took the steps needed, and I am so happy to be working as a Doula with Everyday Miracles! There was so much knowledge I didn't have going into my first birth. I was misinformed and scared into making decisions I didn't want to go through with. I believe many women of color have this birthing experience, and it's highly important to me to make sure those women are given the correct information; and not anything based in bias or fear.

As your Doula, I promise to educate, listen, and make note of any concerns or desires you may have. I promise to advocate fiercely for you and your baby in any setting. I have lived a very full life and have no room for judgement. I will be your voice when you can't speak, and do my best to ensure you have the pregnancy of your dreams.

I look forward to meeting you and your bun(s) in the oven!"

In addition to physical and emotional support during labor, my role is also to act as an educator and advocate for the birthing woman and her family

Married for over a decade and a homeschool mama of five, I value a holistic approach to birth and family planning. I am a certified birth doula through DONA and I feel honored to be able to share my expertise with women and families in Minnesota and virtually around the world. In addition to physical and emotional support during labor, my role is also to act as an educator and advocate for the birthing woman and her family. I am trained and certified in physiological birth. I am also a noted champion and voice for Black Maternal Health Justice.

A few of my favorite things are family vacations, reading books on parenting, and all things fall season. I also love sharing a special connection with birthing families and watching their little ones grow up after serving them as their birth doula.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

My journey as a doula is to assist in bringing amazing life into this world. Being part of this form of joy and encouraging and supporting a healthy pregnancy is truly a great privilege.

Hello! My name is Sadia, and I am a family educator at an organization and soon to be a doula. I’ve been a certified medical assistant for thirteen years. I am also certified in childhood development and soon to be in nutrition as well. I am a wife and a mother of six beautiful children—three boys and three girls. My journey into becoming a doula all began during my pregnancies, which all came with many complications that could have been avoided with the right medical attention. But what truly inspired me to initially take the steps into becoming a doula was what I had seen while working as a family educator. I had seen many soon-to-be mothers who were also minorities face the same challenges I had faced as a birthing person of color.

Through my shared experiences, I was able to help guide many of these soon-to-be mothers in their birthing process. While doing this, I started to believe that I could help make a difference and help many more expecting parents while advocating for better treatment for pregnant women of color and all in the medical system. I believe that as a doula, I can strive to help meet these goals for all by being there for expecting mothers when they have questions and guiding them through the good and bad during pregnancy.

Shadonna

As a doula, I enjoy being able to be a part of beautiful births, as I encourage the birthing person and their support team

My Name is Shadonna, (pronouns she, her/hers) I was officially called into birth work in mid-July of 2019. I have been attending birth since I was around 12 years old. Every time I get called in for a birth I get a beautiful rush of excitement. As a doula, I enjoy being able to be a part of beautiful births, as I encourage the birthing person and their support team. As a doula, I would like to see a change in the disparities in the care that women of color and minorities face. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 5 beautiful children, and my beautiful circle of sisters.

I am dedicated to helping your family find the path to the birth you desire with all of the tools and knowledge I have to share

My road to birth work has been one filled with many detours. I’ve considered training to support families in birth many times and the final catalyst to entering the birth world was birthing my own child. In previous careers I have taught all ages but mostly in preschool classrooms and high school theater classrooms. I am also an improviser locally and bring the skills from improv to each birth I attend. This includes both the ability to adapt in the moment to changes and techniques to manage labor.

I am dedicated to helping your family find the path to the birth you desire with all of the tools and knowledge I have to share. Sometimes this means I am not the right fit and I am happy to refer you to others so you find the right fit. I am a Queer, trans non-binary parent working always to operate from an anti-racist and decolonizing framework. I work with all families, but center those who carry identities not usually centered. I live on Wahpekute, Anishinabewaki, and Očeti Šakówiŋ land in Columbia Heights with my husband, two kids, snake, gecko, and very cuddly dog.

Shamsa

My journey in life is to teach those who cannot teach themselves, and hopefully create a community in which all parents have equal rights to education, health, and the safety that they deserve

Shamsa is not currently taking clients, but we wanted to highlight the amazing work she has done for our organization*

My name is Shamsa . I was born and raised in Mogadishu, Somali. I am happily married with five grown children. Before the Civil War took place in my country in 1991, I was a registered nurse working at Banadir Hospital, where I helped pregnant women deliver babies and also consulted with mothers about any health issues that they had while they were in the hospital. I was also a midwife at a center called Mother Child Health in Mogadishu and my main job was to educate mothers about prenatal care, nutrition, immunizations, and health in infants in order to prevent illness. I  worked at the Mother Child Health Center for five years. I was a scholarship recipient selected to go to Rome, Italy to learn about infant nutrition. I then returned to Somali to continue with my career as a Family Educator. As a Family Educator I was responsible for educating families about nutrition and healthy eating habits.

In 1991 when the Civil War took place I was forced to move out of my country, and became an immigrant in Nairobi, Kenya. I resided in Kenya for about five years before I came to the United States in 1996.

After coming to the United States my goal was to continue with my work as a family educator and in order to help my community the best way that I knew how. My focus was to find occupations that mainly focused on the well being of family and children.  In 1997 I was fortunate enough to find a job at Way to Grow, which focuses on promoting the well being of the family as a whole. I use my knowledge as a registered nurse, midwife, and a family educator to assist families.

I help mothers with children with early childhood education and school readiness so that when their children start school they are ready. I also work as a Doula through Everyday Miracles because of my previous experience as a midwife and registered nurse. I do this type of work because I am very passionate about helping and giving back to the community. I teach mothers about the importance of prenatal care, nutrition, and the process of healthy pregnancies.

My journey in life is to teach those who cannot teach themselves, and hopefully create a community in which all parents have equal rights to education, health, and the safety that they deserve.

I believe that every birthing person should be fully supported, informed, and cared for

Hi I’m Stephanie! I come from a family of doulas and I believe that every birthing person should be fully supported, informed, and cared for. My doula journey started at age 10, watching my mother labor with and birth my little brother. My doula certification comes from the Commonsense Childbirth Institute. I’m also a certified lactation counselor. I consider myself a first generation Minnesotan with Southern roots (Louisiana). When I’m not supporting clients, you can find me spending time with my four sons, ranging in age from 5-24 years old.

Tricia

As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies

"Most of us did not learn when we were young that our capacity to be self-loving would be shaped by the work we do and whether that work enhances our well-being." – bell hooks.

This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my COPE training. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born.

My mother had a traumatic birthing experience that led to her being hospitalized for 2 months with an infection from an avoidable mistake during my emergency cesarean section. She did not want me away from her while she was hospitalized, so I remained in the NICU while she was admitted. I could not be in the room with her due to her infection, so I became known as the “unit’s baby” with staff carrying me around and coming to see me often. They would take me to my mother’s room when they could and bring me in for short periods of time with all the protection necessary to prevent the spread of infection. When other babies would cry, I would coo to comfort them. My mom loves reminding me my first word was “baby.”

I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.

When I am not engaging in birth work, I am a Registered Dietitian at Hennepin Healthcare (also known as HCMC). Also, I am currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Public Health with a focus on social epidemiology. That is the study of how people’s health is impacted by their environment, community, as well as governing bodies. My interest is in promoting health as a human right with a focus on Black and Brown communities.

Venedia

My main goal as a doula is to help and be an advocate for the people who may not be sure of their route for their birthing journey.

Hi, I’m Venedia (she/her).

I am an aspiring birthing doula. I’ve always have had a passion in childbirth work as a child and knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I’ve realized the lack of knowledge that our community has with resources, support, and doulas. My main goal as a doula is to help and be an advocate for the people who may not be sure of their route for their birthing journey. I believe mothers and soon-to-be mothers should have a comfortable, informative, and beautiful pregnancy and I pride myself on providing that for families. Trust, support and uplifting women especially during a vulnerable time, I take satisfaction in providing individualized care for every family. My biggest priority is to leave parents feeling empowered on their journey with their new addition to their family.

I’m born and raised in North Minneapolis and I’m a very involved member of my community and surroundings. I currently attending Minneapolis Community Technical College for my nursing assistant degree and pharmacy technician certificate. I plan to graduate in May 2022. My hobbies are gardening, watching anime, traveling, video-photography, horseback riding, attending healing circles, and fishing. I look forward to meeting you and gaining your trust as your provider on your journey!

Vonyee

As a Doula, Perinatal Educator, and Lactation Educator my goal is to provide you with person-centered perinatal support along with education, information and resources to assist you every step of the way.

Hi! I’m Vonyee (prounounced von-YEE) (YEE like TREE).

I became interested in the Doula practice many years ago. However, due to being busy raising my own babies, I just didn’t have the time to commit to the work. My children have grown up, my nest is almost and Doula work fits perfectly! I’m now able to commit to the role and devote the necessary time to support birthing persons along their journey.

I’ve had a passion for caring for, helping, and serving others for as long as I can remember. As a Doula, Perinatal Educator, and Lactation Educator my goal is to provide you with person-centered perinatal support along with education, information and resources to assist you every step of the way.

With more than 25 years combined experience in healthcare, community health and public health, a vast majority of my experience has included supporting diverse cultures, underserved communities, older adults and people diagnosed with mental health and chronic health conditions.

Aside from being a Doula, I am also a Community Health Worker (CHW). Currently, my role is CHW Field Experience/Apprenticeship Coordinator. My CHW experience also includes CHW program development, Student Mentor, and CHW Trainer. Additionally, as a CHW I’ve worked in a variety of hospitals, clinics, social services and human service organizations. In 2021, I was asked to author the Healthy Lifestyles modules of the MN CHW Certificate Curriculum, which is currently being taught to CHW students in MN and nationwide.

Before becoming a CHW and a Doula, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant, Trained Medication Aide, Medical Receptionist and Hospital Unit Coordinator. In my free time, I enjoy time for self-care, spending time with my close friends and family, and traveling. I look forward to meeting and working with you- supporting you during your journey!

Yaa

I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of her circumstance, needs support especially during childbirth.

I’m Yaa. My doula career began early and unofficially – I was there for my baby sister’s birth, from the time my mom’s water broke till she was born eight hours later. My mother jokingly told people that I was her doula …  I guess I really was!

That experience was only the beginning. It sparked a passion for birth and supporting women that continues today. I strongly believe that every woman, regardless of her circumstance, needs support especially during childbirth. This belief guides the work I do at Everyday Miracles.

A Certified Doula through DONA, I did my doula training with Liz Abbene as part of the Doula Access Project. I have also worked as a breastfeeding counselor for the Hennepin County WIC program since 2009.

A wife and mother of four energetic sons, I have also worked as an elementary school teacher and a radio presenter. As a busy working mom, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, including 45 minutes of time to myself!

I have a passion for helping others in all stages of life

I was born and bred in Minnesota. I have a passion for helping others in all stages of life. Not only I’m I honored by it, but have a deep respect for motherhood. I would like to assist in health disparities among minorities I’ve analyzed as a medical interpreter. I have two younger sisters that I’ve helped my beloved mother raise. Both of my young sisters were on G-tubes as infants. Intrinsically this sparked my inner caretaking role growing up for birth work.

I’m currently studying herbalism. I’m a lover of beneficial knowledge and humans having alternative ways of healing as opposed to allopathic, conventional healing being the ONLY option for the body to come back into balance.

When I’m not reading. I’m having meaningful conversations with my loved ones and trying to figure out how to soak up some sun in the winter months. I love cooking and mixing up herbal infusions. As a Doula, my aim is to provide evidence-based education, making people feel empowered and culturally aware support.
